subsistence from DSWD

The first district of Negros Oriental received P8.4 million  from  the Self Employment Assistance Kaunlaran  Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development  and was distributed to Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries who were enrolled in the program in year 2008,  and would graduate from the program on 2013.

Regional director Ma. Evelyn  Macapobre of the DSWD stressed  the importance of transparency as she acknowledged the presence of the LCEs from the municipalities.

The checks were presented in La Libertad where the recipient towns  were led by their mayors and  social welfare officers.

Oil leakage from sunken
vessel spotted

ILOILO CITY – Traces of oil leakage from the sunken vessel owned by Seaford Shipping Lines were spotted yesterday morning in the coast off San Pedro, San Jose, Antique.

Local government officials and the Philippine Coast Guard are working  to address the problem before it worsens.

They are also looking for oil dispersants to prevent environmental damage in the shoreline of Antique  and the PCG-Western Visayas has already sent oil spill booms to the area to help contain the oil leakage.

Sibulan sitio eyed
for peace, dev’t

A sitio in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, was identified as one of the communities for the Peace and Development Community livelihood and development projects in  Negros island, a Philippine Information Agency press release said.

Sitio Talirokon in Brgy. Enrique Villanueva, of Sibulan was identified by the Manila-based Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process.

Talirokon is around 50 kilometers away from Sibulan town. Its area is 1,118 hectares and has 57 families.
