Guv releases P2.2M for projects

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday turned over P2,227,685 in checks for the various projects of the towns and cities of Negros Occidental yesterday.

Don Salvador Benedicto town was given P100,000 as financial assistance for the summer youth camp of the Kabataang Uno; while P250,000 was released to Sagay City for the widening of road in Barangay Vito, and P497,685 for the concreting of road in Barangay Maquiling, a Capitol press release said.

Cadiz City received P300,000 for the rehabilitation of the multi-purpose building in Brgy. Zone 2; Manapla got P200,000 as assistance to small fishermen; Murcia got P65,000 for the rehabilitation of the drainage system, P15,000 for its clean and green beautification program in Brgy. Alegria and P50,000 for the repainting of the San Miguel Elementary School in Brgy. San Miguel, the press release also said.

Victorias City was given P50,000 for the repair of the multi-purpose hall in Brgy. 19A; San Enrique received P300,000 as support services to various development programs in the town; Candoni got P90,000 for the rehabilitation of Sitio Pag-ulinganan Daycare Center; and Hinobaan received P100,000 for its agro-aqua, cultural and tourism promotion, the press release said.

Meanwhile, the LGUs who won in the recently-concluded Provincial Environment Week celebration were given their prizes.

E.B. Magalona received P75,000 for placing first in the Search for Model Solid Waste Management Board town category; Bago got the same amount for placing first in the Model SWMB city category and another P10,000 for winning the Best Grown Indigenous Tree Species.

Moises Padilla received P50,000 for placing second in the Model SWMB; Binalbagan received P20,000 for winning the search for Best Community-based Mangrove Reforestation; Hinobaan got P20,000 for winning the Best Protected Forest Trees Plantation; and Sipalay City received P10,000 adjudged as the Best Performing Environment and Natural Resources Office, the press release said.*
