An unsettled conflict between two families led to the stabbing and shooting among their members yesterday at the public market of Silay City, Negros Occidental, leaving two dead and four injured, police report said.

Jimero Dioneo, 50, and his younger brother, Roy, 42, were stabbed dead in the rumble with Leo Abellar Sr. and his son. Leo Jr., who were also wounded, after being shot allegedly by a certain Bobit Dioneo, at about 5 a.m. yesterday, police chief Supt. Rosauro Francisco said.

The Dioneo and Abellar families own meat stalls at the market.

Francisco, the Silay police chief, said two other persons identified as Ricardo Dioneo, 52, elder brother of the two fatalities, and Edgar Flores, 47, were also injured in the rumble.

A day before the confrontation, Abellar Sr. complained to the Silay police that he was punched by Roy Dioneo.

Francisco said he advised the complainant to secure a medical report, which is a requirement, in case they resort to legal action. The next day, however, Roy Dioneo, armed with a baseball bat, went to the meat stall of the Abellar family, and allegedly harassed them.

This triggered a rumble among members of their families.

Bobit Dioneo, a nephew of the two fatalities, who reportedly had a .45 caliber pistol, shot Abellar and his son, who were hit in different parts of their bodies. A stray bullet hit Flores, a meat vendor, in the right arm, Francisco said.

Abellar, 51, and his son, Leo Jr, 26, who survived the shooting incident, are now being treated at a private hospital in Bacolod City, while Ricardo Dioneo and Flores are confined at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

Policemen who responded to the incident , recovered seven empty shells of .45 caliber pistol, a baseball bat with metal spikes and two butcher's knieves from the crime scene.

Francisco said Bobit Dioneo was nowhere to be found as of yesterday. He, however, said they will file frustrated homicide charges against him for the injuries of the Abellars and Flores.

Homicide charges will also be filed against Abellar and his son, for the deaths of the Dioneo brothers, he added. *GPB
