The Negros Occidental provincial government is preparing for the 7th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival on Nov. 22 to 27, Edna Garde, manager of Farmer’s Information and Technology Services Center, said yesterday.
Garde said this year’s theme is “Celebrating the Gains of Organic Agriculture; Mainstreaming Opportunities of Fair Trade.”
She said they have to mainstream fair trades because not all farmers advocating organic agriculture know about it.
She said fair trade is necessary even at the local level to give value to the products each farmer produces and help them introduce their products to various markets, Garde also said.
The festival will have forums on food safety and quality, fair trade, organic agriculture experience, grasses fed sheep production, slow food and cooking demonstration, organic feed mix production, and cassava production, she said.
It will also feature Filipino games, organic agriculture quiz bee that will be participated by the elementary and high school students and farmers, organic food cooking contest, and display and exhibits of booths at the Capitol grounds, she added.
Garde is also inviting all non government organizations and organic advocates to participate and attend the forums that are open to the public.*LTG
