LP vs. NPC in top posts
in Dumaguete: Comelec

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The ruling Liberal Party and the Nationalist People’s Coalition are expected to have a neck-to-neck race in the May 13, 2013 elections, with both parties having fielded their candidates for top positions in Dumaguete City.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and his running mate, former Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling of NPC, are pitted against Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova and Councilor Joe Kenneth Arbas of the LP, in the mayoral and vice-mayoral races, respectively.

Records of the Commission on Elections Dumaguete City show that Sagarbarria and Maquiling are on the slate of second district re-electionist Rep. George Arnaiz, who is the chair of the NPC in Negros Oriental, with former Finance Secretary Margarito Teves as their candidate for governor.

Cordova and Arbas, meanwhile, are aligned with the administration candidates, with Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District) as the gubernatorial bet, the records also show.

Aspiring Sangguniang Panlungsod members from the LP are Manuel Rotea Arbon, Michael Maxino Bandal, Randolf Teves Bandiola, Rey Dennis Binga-an Caballero, Cherry Mae Bilbao Belen, Antonio Flores Cariño, Samuel Dumpor Dicen, Edilberto Obatay Macapanas, Antonio Johnson Remollo and Analou Lumasag Suan.

The NPC candidates are incumbents Franklin Dy Esmeña Jr., Jose Victor Vicente Imbo, Danilo Teves Leon, and Nilo Duran Sayson, and Peter Campoy Catan, Saleto Jayme Erames, Joel Cadiogan Obar, Lilani Langbid Ramon and Manuel Catadman Patrimonio.

Independent candidates for the Dumaguete City SP are Albert Cimafranca Aquino, William Matanug Aranas, Felix Enfante Dicen, and Jose Victor Acupanda Teves.*JFP
