Leaders of the Department of Labor and Employment were asked by Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño yesterday to help the workers of a marketing firm in Bacolod City who, he said, have been treated inhumanely.
Casiño was referring to the 60 workers of Bacolod Columbia Marketing Inc., whose management received an order of reinstatement from DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, through Undersecretary Lourdes Transmonte last year.
Members of the Bacolod Columbia Workers Association went on strike last year to protest what they call as the company’s labor code violations like unfair labor practice, illegal dismissal, and union busting.


‘Panaad Festival is
for the people’
SAGAY CITY – Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said that the 20th Panaad sa Negros Festival that will open on April 8 to 14 will be different from those of previous years because of its continued successful celebration and the appreciation of the public.
Marañon, who was conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Public Administration by the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, at its graduation rites in Sagay City, said that the province will highlight 20th year of the Panaad Festival.
The province will also give recognition to local food producers and farmers during the festival to be held at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, he said. 


BIR: File ITR early
The Bureau of Internal Revenue yesterday reminded taxpayers to file their income tax returns, a government press release said.
The deadline for ITR filing is on April 15.
To avoid the rush, the BIR encouraged the public to file earlier and pay the necessary revenue due to the government, the press release said.
Earlier, BIR Commissioner Kim Henares issued Bank Bulletin No. 2013-03 reminding all BIR Authorized Agent Banks to accept ITRs and tax payments on two Saturdays, April 6 and April 13,
