Coco farmers to get
free bags of agri salt

The Philippine Coconut Authority is distributing 100,000 bags of agricultural salt fertilizer for free to small coconut farmers in Western Visayas owning coconut farms less than five hectares, a government press release said.

PCA Regional Manager Jose Cruz said that agri-salt fertilizer is an effective and practical means to increase coconut production.

According to a PCA study, the use of agri-salt fertilizer accelerates crop growth and development, increases copra weight and number of nuts, minimizes leaf spot damage, and environment-friendly under careful practice, the press release said.

“We are urging our farmers to use agri-salt for this could increase their coconut production by 20-30 percent,” Cruz said.

Cruz also said that for every hectare of the coconut farm, the farmers need to apply to 2 1/2 to 3 bags of agri-salt fertilizer.

He said that coco farmers could avail of the agri-salt fertilizer by coordinating with the PCA technicians or Department of Agriculture technicians in their respective municipalities.

“The farmers could also contact their municipal development officers in order to link them with the PCA or DA technicians,” Cruz added.*
