Forty-three high school graduates in Negros Oriental passed the nationwide scholarship examination of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute for academic year 2013-2014.
DOST provincial director Gilbert Arbon said 40 students qualified as scholars under Republic Act 7687, or the Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994, for poor but deserving students, and three for the merit program of the department, a government press release said.
The examination was administered November 18 last year at the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City with 341 participating.
The scholars will receive tuition and subsidy for other school fees, stipend for 10 to 11 months, allowances for book and uniform needs, and transportation, and other privileges, the press release also said.
The orientation and scholarship contract signing is tentatively scheduled on April 19, the press release added.*
