The Organic Village sa Panaad that featured 45 local and organic producers in Negros Occidental generated P614,112.90 in sales during the 20 th Panaad sa Negros Festival last week.
The Don Salvador Benedicto Farmers Association that earned P61,002, was named top grosser in the village, a report from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist showed yesterday.
Other top grossers were Herbanext that generated P46,926, the United Fishermen Multipurpose Cooperative with P32,219, the Green Organic Enterprise with P28,380, and the Alter Trade Foundation with P25,017.70.
Dina Genzola, senior agriculturist, yesterday said the sales of local farmers at the village imply that people are appreciating organic products.
She said it is the first time that they integrated the display of organic products in the Panaad Festival and the response from the consumers is apparently positive.
It also showed that people become more health-conscious and some are practicing healthy lifestyle through consumption of organic products, Genzola also said.
The village was also another venue for them to encourage more farmers to do green farming since the demand is already increasing and they are sold at premium prices, Genzola added. *LTG
