Metrowaste: We've
covered 90% of city
BY
CHYRSEE SAMILLANO

The overall operations manager of Metrowaste Solidwaste Management Corp. said yesterday that their garbage collection has covered almost 90 percent of the areas in Bacolod City.

Manuel Baal said they have also increased the number of dump trucks to 29 from 23 units since they started operations on March 16. They are now able to make an average of 43 trips a day.

He said the city used to collect about 360 cubic meters of garbage a day, but Metrowaste has been to collect about 560 cubic meters a day

Nelson Sedillo, officer-in-charge of the City's Department of Public Services, said he has observed that the number of complaints received by their Complaint Section in Taculing has reduced significantly.

He said that he has noted that the collection efficiency of Metrowaste is almost double that of the city.

Sedillo also said that before Metrowaste came in, the city had only 23 dump trucks that were operational out of 27 units.

Metrowaste has agreed to undertake solid waste collection and disposal services in Bacolod City with an award of contract amounting to P71,879,461.73. This    is below the Approved Budget of the Contract of P72 million.

Baal said they have deferred the segregation of garbage until after the May 13 elections.

The Metrowaste hotline number is 456-3531, while that of the DPS complaint desk is 433-9425.*CGS
