Rep. Mercedes Alvarez yesterday debunked rumors being circulated that her father, Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr., had suffered a stroke.
“That is completely false,” Rep. Alvarez said, adding that her father, who is running for governor of Negros Occidental, does not have high blood pressure, and regularly passes his stress tests.
Rep. Alvarez, who is also seeking re-election as congresswoman of the 6 th district of Negros Occidental, said her father was campaigning yesterday in Brgy. Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City, and presenting his LOVE agenda platform of government.
Meanwhile, a press release from the vice governor's camp said one of his supporters reported the manipulation of a principal and residents in Sagay City, allegedly by Rep. Alfredo Marañon III (Neg. Occ., 2 nd District).
Asher Sabio of Brgy. Bato, Sagay, and a supporter of Alvarez, claimed when they asked permission from the principal of Bato Elementary School for the helicopter used by Alvarez to land in the field of the school on April 13, the latter approved it, the press release said.
But apparently, this had reached the attention of the congressman, who allegedly lambasted and scolded the principal in the presence of others during an assembly in Sagay, it added.
To spare the principal from the ire of Marañon, Sabio looked for another landing area in Sagay so that the vice governor could still meet with his supporters in Sagay, the press release added.
Sabio claimed this is trivial but this is not the first time that the Marañons wielded their influence to sabotage the campaign of Alvarez. He also accused the Marañons of threatening the people who support Alvarez, the press release said.*GPB
