Be vigilant, guv
warns Negrenses
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday ordered the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Sagay City to wake up and shape up after the escape of 13 inmates Wednesday.

The governor also called on Negrenses to stay vigilant as most of the escapees were facing murder, frustrated murder and robbery charges.

Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, Negros Occidental OIC police director, briefed him on the jailbreak Wednesday and he ordered him to track down the jailbreakers.

The BJMP, Philippine National Police Mobile Group Sagay, Special Actions Force and the Philippine Army are conducting manhunt operations for the 13.

The escapees took advantage of the voters education being conducted at the jail where inmates were brought out of their cells to participate in the event, to stage their escape, a BJMP report said.

Appropriate charges will be filed against the officers of the Sagay Jail who may be found remiss in their duties, the report added.*CPG
