in 2013 Palarong Pambansa

The Western Visayas secondary softball team blanked the National Capital Region, 8-0, to retain the championship in the 2013 Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete yesterday.

The secondary boys' baseball team also won the gold by beating NCR.

Composed of players from Domingo Lacson National High School in Bacolod City, the WV softbelles scored two runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, and two more in the fifth inning to assert their dominance in the championship match.

The team's victory avenged the loss of the elementary softball squad from ETCS, who bowed to Northern Mindanao , 1-2, in yesterday's semifinals. The ETCS salvaged a bronze by beating Southern Tagalog, 9-1 in their battle for third place.

Also giving the Western Visayas contingent something to celebrate yesterday was the semifinals victory of the elementary girls' volleyball team from Mabini Elementary School. The team will play for championship today at 8 a.m. against Central Visayas .

After losing in the semifinals against Ilocos Region , WV elementary boys' volleyball team secured the bronze by beating Central Visayas in three sets, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-18.

The secondary boys' volleyball team met the same fate in the semifinals in the hands of NCR, 25-19, 12-25, and 24-26 then bowed to Central Visayas , 20-25, 19-25 in the game for third place.

In badminton, Region VI finished with several medals as Clark Golez and Cody Torres secured a gold and a silver medal in elementary boys' singles, and another silver for ia Manguilimotan in elementary girls' singles.

The quartet of Danielle Grace Lopez, Amica Duay, Dhessa Mae Ariño, and Aprille Dianne Bibiano won the silver in secondary girls' team tie.

Bibiano received two more silver medals after teaming up with Ariño in secondary girls' doubles and with Carlo Lopez in mixed doubles.

The elementary girls' doubles of Yna Ysabel Chua and Susmita Angelique Ramos shared the bronze medal with Region XI.

It was also a bleak day for Region VI in basketball as both the secondary boys and girls' teams yielded to NCR.

The boys from the big city stamped their class against their rivals from Hwa Siong College of Iloilo, 76-38, while the NCR girls dethroned defending champion Western Visayas , 77-56.

Another heartbreaking semifinals loss by Western Visayas was in football as the elementary team was defeated by MIMORAPA, 1-0, and the high school team by NCR, also 1-0.
