German national arrested
for non-payment of goods

A German national was nabbed by the police when he entered a convenience store half-naked and took several goods worth P122 at 1st Lacson Street, Brgy. 18 in Bacolod City, at about 11 p.m. Sunday.

Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel, identified the suspect as Emil Sanchez, “alias King of the Philippines”, 49, who entered the store, pretended to be a customer, and took two Chiz Curls packets worth P60, and two bottles of soft drinks valued at P62.

Sedel said that if the complainant will file a case, the charges will be for alarm and scandal and estafa, before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office.

In an interview with the DAILY STAR, Sanchez said he does not know that it is prohibited in the Philippines to go out half-naked.

Sedel said they coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration on the status of Sanchez, who, from their observation, does not appear to be mentally stable. This is still subject to verification, he said.

Sanchez admitted to the DAILY STAR that he was once confined in a hospital, and when asked what kind of illness he had, he said that people in Germany believed he was crazy.

Police records show that Sanchez has previous cases of estafa, and of physical injury this month, when he failed to pay the hotel he had stayed at in Lacson Street, and when he hit the security guard of another hotel, whose name was not disclosed.

Sanchez, who gave “Gerhard Hermann Yohannes,” as his name during his first arrest earlier this month, was released because the complainant was not able to file the case before the reglamentary period lapsed.*SHIELA G. GELERA

Political supporter mauled

A political leader of mayoral candidate Maria Luisa de la Cruz was mauled allegedly by two supporters of incumbent Mayor Evelio Valencia Sunday night in Sitio Toril, Brgy. Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

Inspector Mark Junco, Toboso police officer-in-charge, yesterday said that Salamanca barangay kagawad, Rolando Baynosa, a political leader of de la Cruz, was allegedly mauled by Jaquiran Baynosa and a certain Pabling Silva, supporters of Mayor Valencia.

Junco said the incident took place after kagawad Baynosa allegedly slapped a certain Teodora, during a political rally in the place.

Jaquiran, a relative of the kagawad, and Silva, immediately fled, while the barangay official was brought to a hospital in San Carlos City.

Junco said Baynosa is determined to file charges against the two suspects, who are reportedly also planning to pursue legal action against him.*GPB

No Ozamis-Dipolog robbery
group in Bacolod – Ordaniel

Bacolod City Police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, said yesterday that there is no Ozamis-Dipolog robbery group in Bacolod.

Ordaniel issued the statement after a newspaper (not the DAILY STAR) reported that the robbery group has been sighted in Negros Occidental.

He said that, on Friday, the Bacolod City Police Office Intelligence Branch validated that there is no armed robbery group planning to hit businesses in Bacolod City.

But he said the police are not relaxing their guard, and urged businessmen to make sure that their establishments are secured and their guards alert.*SGG
