Bing pushes for
second city flyover
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia said Saturday that he will push for the construction of the second flyover in the city that has an estimated cost of P365 million, that did not push through before.

Originally, the second flyover was to be built at the junction of Magsaysay Avenue and Araneta Street, where a study had been conducted, but Leonardia, who was the mayor then, did not agree to it as the study was done when the old airport was still operational.

“I will recommend that it be constructed at the junction of Circumferential road and Burgos Extension, near the Lopue’s East because, given the fact that the City’s Government Center is at the Circumferential road, it can be assumed that, in the next five years, the area will become congested”, Leonardia said.

“The second flyover is expected to decongest about 90 percent of the traffic in Bacolod and once it is completed, cane trucks will not be allowed to pass over it”, Leonardia added.

Aside from the creation of the second flyover, he said, he is also pushing for the rehabilitation of the bridge at Fortune Towne Subdivision and the extension of the Circumferential road from Bangga Cegasco in Brgy. Pahanocoy to Brgy. Cabug, so it can be used an alternate route.

Other projects to be implemented, Leonardia said, are the construction of the coastal road in Bacolod and the reconstruction of the roads leading to the tourist destinations in the city.

Leonardia with Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineer Reynaldo Venturina, inspected the projects being implemented by the agency that will include the rehabilitation of the bridges in Pahanocoy and Sum-ag.

He said Venturina told him that these projects are expected to be completed before the year ends.*APN
