| ‘17-year-old boy kills self’
A pair of slippers is believed to have led a 17-year-old boy to commit suicide in Bacolod City, Monday.
Senior Police Officer 3 Arlene Torrendon, deputy chief of the City Police Office Women and Children Complaints Desk, yesterday said there was no foul play in the death of the teenager.
The family of the victim, whose name the police withheld, is convinced that he really killed himself, Torrendon said.
Investigation showed that on Monday morning, the mother of the victim bought a pair of slippers for his younger brother, and the boy felt jealous.
His aunt, whose name was also not disclosed, told him that he must not feel that way because the money his mother used in buying the slippers was his younger brother’s savings, Torrendon said.
At about 3 p.m., a family member went to the victim’s room and saw him hanging from the ceiling with a belt tied around his neck, reports said.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival, Torrendon said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.
Torrendon said the boy had graduated from high school but was not able to go to college. She also said he was possibly not strong enough to handle the jealousy he had felt towards his sibling.
The police had offered to conduct an autopsy on the body but the family refused since they are convinced that the victim killed himself, Torrendon said.*SGG
