Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said President Benigno Aquino III should make plans to reduce electricity rates in the country.  

However, Marañon refused to comment on the proposed implementation of the Interruptible Load Program being pushed by the business sector and the Department of Energy to ease the effects of power outages in the province.         

Under the ILP program, huge corporations that have generator sets will use them during peak hours so the available electricity can be used by other consumers.

Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson said ILP is a good option while the power supply is still unstable, pending the restoration of the power plants in Leyte that were destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda. 

Lacson said the concerned agencies should also check on other options to lessen the effects of the power outages in e province.*APN
