Sipalay City Mayor Oscar Montilla yesterday said that someone has hired killers from Pototan town in Iloilo province to liquidate him.

Montilla said he received a text message last week from an unknown source saying "mayor mayong gab-e, concerned citizen ni, Nag text gid Ko Kay nakonsensya Ko. Mapati ka man o indi may gun-for-hire nga taga Pototan ang matumba sa IMO (good evening mayor, I'm a concerned citizen. I texted you because I am being bothered by my conscience. Believe it or not but there are hired killers from Pototan to kill you)".

He said the texter also said, "Gina monitor ka nila kun diin ka nila iguon. Gabay pa magpati ka. Halong gid (They are monitoring you so they will know when they will kill you. Hopefully you will believe me. Be careful)".

Asked if he has any idea as to who is behind the ploy to kill him, Montilla said no, but he is sure that it has something to do with politics.

Montilla said he is also looking into the possibility that it could be just a prank but even if it is, he is taking precautionary measures.

Negros Occidental Provincial Police Director Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan said their intelligence group is now verifying the threats against Montilla.

Lirazan said they are yet to identify the person or persons behind the threats and the motive. He said the Sipalay PNP can provide additional security to Montilla if he asks for it.*APN
