Kabankalan vote crucial

Candidates of teams associated with the United Negros Alliance and Love Negros filed their certificates of candidacy yesterday for the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay election at the Social Hall of the Capitol in Bacolod City at 10 a.m. today.
And it looks like a close fight, with both teams claiming 16 out of 31 provincial Liga members as their supporters.
The winner of today’s polls will represent the Liga in the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan.   |
Bacolod bets unopposed

Candidates for president, vice president and auditor of the December 18 Liga nga mga Barangay elections in Bacolod City are running unopposed, while there are nine contenders for eight Board seats.
Only Barangay Captains of Tangub Noli Villarosa, Brgy. 13 Tanya Familiaran and Brgy. 37 Hernani Jalando-on, have filed their certificates of candidacy for president, vice president and auditor, respectively, before the Liga Committee on Nominations on the last day of filing yesterday.
Those who filed their COC’s for the Board of Directors were Barangay Captains Jeffrey Cuachon of Barangay 36, Alexander Diamante - Taculing, Alfredo Talimodao Jr -. Granada, Freddie Vargas – Brgy. 4, Jonathan Diaz Jr. – Brgy. 18, Myrna Obligar – Brgy. 27, Charlie Chavez – Brgy.22, Richard Barber – Brgy. 2, and Friday Solinap - Villamonte.   |
Yulo withdraws
complaint vs. Mirasol

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) yesterday said the election protest filed against Rep. Alejandro Mirasol (Neg. Occ., 5th District) before the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal has been withdrawn.
Benitez, who heads the Liberal Party in Negros Occidental, said there is no longer any pending case against Mirasol (LP) before the HRET.
Former Board Member Emilio Yulo III, who lost his bid for the fifth congressional seat of Negros Occidental in the May 13 polls to Mirasol, who is his uncle, had filed the election protest before the HRET.   |
