BY CARLA GOMEZ

The candidate of Negros Occidental's powerful kingmakers won the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay Federation election over the alleged bet of the camp of Gov. Alfredo Maranoñ Jr. in a neck-and-neck fight yesterday.

‘Cui win won't strain
relationship with guv'
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday debunked insinuations that the election of San Carlos City barangay captain Mark Cui as the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay president and his team mates may strain their relationship with Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

He recalled the statement of Marañon that he will adopt a hands-off policy in the Liga ng mga Barangay election. Lacson, a member of Love-Negros, said “I don't see any reason why it will affect our working relationship with the governor”.

Cui won by one vote over Cadiz City Brgy. chairman Eduardo Javier, who is reportedly associated with the United Negros Alliance of Marañon, for president of the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay, who will automatically sit as ex-oficio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.
