Team D posts first win in
Ayala Club cagefest

Team D finally barged into the win column with an emphatic 78-59 victory against Team B in the Ayala Basketball Club 3rd Conference Tournament at the Ayala North Clubhouse in Talisay City, a press release from tournament organizers said.

Team D started strong in the first quarter led by Chac Mirano and Rayjund Trespicio as the second quarter was a battle between JC Gamban and Popoy Jamero both of whom tried to keep the game close.

Gamban pumped in 10 points for Team B, while Jamero had 11 points including a layup at the buzzer as Team D held on to the lead, the press release said.

Team D pulled away in the second half as Mirano, Dr. Judah Gozar, and Leon Bautista took turns in scoring against a struggling Team B.

Mirano led five Team D players in double digit scoring with 18 points, while Jamero added 13 points and Bautista, Villeran, and Gozar combined for 33 points.

Tommy Andren and Gamban had 14 and 10 points for Team B's losing cause.

Earlier, Team A suffered its first setback after bowing to Team C with the final score of 66-55.

Dantel Llorca, Vince Lacson and Toto Arela set the tone in the first half, scoring both in the inside and outside en route to a commanding 33-22 halftime lead.

Then it was Marvin Tan and Tony Agustin continuing the onslaught as both combined for 13 of their team's 17-point third quarter output and a 15-point lead.

Vice Mayor Nilo Lizares of Team C then took charge in the final quarter as he pounded the shaded lane for 8 points to neutralize Team A's last ditch effort.

Arela and Lizares led Team C with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Brod Hojilla was the lone bright spot for Team A with 12 points.*
