Three Police Stations of the Bacolod City Police Office were ordered to explain their failure to implement an all-out war against illegal gambling operations in their areas.
Acting city director, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, said yesterday that Stations 2, 6 and 10 failed to comply with his directive during their command conference Monday, to crack down on all illegal gambling operations, especially “jai alai.”
The three stations should submit their explanation within 24 hours after receiving the memorandum, he said.
He also said he expects that when he gives specific instructions to the chiefs of police, their stations will comply.
Station 6 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, who submitted his station's explanation yesterday, told the DAILY STAR that they had made apprehensions on Monday but they were not entered in the BCPO operations records.
Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel said they also submitted their explanation yesterday, and that they had three apprehensions since the start of December, and five for November.
The DAILY STAR meanwhile, tried but failed to contact Senior Insp. Ruel Culanag, chief of Station 10, for comment.
About 13 bet collectors were nabbed by seven stations after the directive was out, Monday, Ordaniel said, adding that on Tuesday, two more bet collectors were arrested by the BCPO Tracker's Team led by Chief Insp. Ulysses Ortiz.
Celedonio Deldo, 62, of Brgy. 27 was nabbed for collecting bets for “jai alai” at Smith Street, Brgy. 9 in the city, at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Recovered from him were three tipsters with the codename “Bullet”, a tipster with number combination at the back, P35 in bet money and a ballpen, police records show.
At about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, the team also nabbed Reynaldo Tanghal, 48, of Brgy. Estefania with several “Bullet” tipsters, a betting stub with number combination and P45 in bet money, police records show.*SGG
