‘Cui win won't strain
relationship with guv'
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday debunked insinuations that the election of San Carlos City barangay captain Mark Cui as the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay president and his team mates may strain their relationship with Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

He recalled the statement of Marañon that he will adopt a hands-off policy in the Liga ng mga Barangay election. Lacson, a member of Love-Negros, said “I don't see any reason why it will affect our working relationship with the governor”.

Cui won by one vote over Cadiz City Brgy. chairman Eduardo Javier, who is reportedly associated with the United Negros Alliance of Marañon, for president of the provincial Liga ng mga Barangay, who will automatically sit as ex-oficio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.

Lacson said he had recommended to Cui that Marañon should be the inducting officer of the newly-elected provincial officers of the Liga ng mga Barangay.

“I know that the governor is willing to receive Cui. In fact, if there had been enough time, the governor would have administered their oaths then”, Lacson said.

He, however, added that he had asked Marañon to schedule it after the holidays.*GPB
