The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod unanimously approved the 2014 Annual Budget of P1,265,147,107 that was submitted by the Office of the Mayor during its regular session yesterday.

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella thanked the SP led by Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya for granting his request and for the cooperation they have shown to his administration in almost six months.

With this cooperation, we will exceed the people's expectations if we all work together for the greater good of the people of Bacolod, Puentevella said.

Gasataya said they approved the budget according to its time table. The annual budget was passed en toto since the SP never reduced or objected to the proposed budget appropriations by the Puentevella administration, he said.

The budget will put the city on the right track, Gasataya said.    

"We can start the year on the right path, especially with our agenda for better delivery of basic services to the people," he said.  

With the huge budget, the city can position itself better to accommodate more investors, that this will surely bring the city to the next level, Gasataya added.  

He said the following colatillas have been included with the approval of the budget: that a budget must be made available for the terminal leave benefits of city employees terminated when the new administration came in, and that the proposed P130 million budget contract for the privatization of garbage collection of the city next year should be sent first to the Council for its approval.

The list of job order and casual employees who have yet to claim their terminal benefits must also pass through the council; and the Annual Investment Plan of the city must also be approved by the Sanggunian, he said.

Gasataya said all projects listed under the Annual Investment Plan will also be presented to the city council for approval.

With the approval of the 2014 annual budget, he said he is hopeful that the city will start the year right.

Gasataya said the unanimous passage of the budget only shows the direction of the SP under his leadership which is centered on the delivery of basic services to the people and to ensure that more investors will come to the city.*CGS
