Multiple charges involving child abuse, violation of Republic Act 7183 and illegal possession of explosives, were filed by the police at about 2 p.m. yesterday against the owner of the warehouse in Purok Tunggoy, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City, that was raided, Monday.
The owner Regulo Gargar, 56, was charged before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office, Supt. Jefferson Descallar, Special Operations Group chief said.
Charges for violation of RA 7183 were also filed against Bonifacio Tan, 24; Bonofacio Bermeo, 37; Argie Villamil, 20; Archie Toisa, 28; and Arciaga Beberto, 24; and a 15-year-old boy, Descallar said.
Tan, Bermeo, Villamil, Toisa and Beberto were released yesterday after the 18 hours for their detention had lapsed, while Gargar is still locked up at the Station 3 jail, Descallar said.
About P200,000 worth of finished and unfinished firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials were confiscated from the makeshift warehouse of Gargar, police records show.
Gargar denied that he employed the men and the minor, and said the recoveries were owned by his fellow dealers, who were allegedly renting his place at the Reclamation area, just like him, reports said.
Acting director of the City Police Office, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, said Gargar must prove his allegations, adding that the dealers whose names he had mentioned were not there during the raid.
The police is serious in regulating the sale and manufacture of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices since they are very dangerous to the people near the manufacturing area, he said.
He urged the public to report to the police anyone engaging in illegal manufacturing of firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials so they can raid them and confiscate the items.
Meanwhile, the BCPO will maintain a heightened alert status until the end of December, and will create a centralized team to supervise the 10 police stations throughout the Yuletide season.
Policemen detailed in malls and churches will be checked to ensure that they are rendering their duty of securing the safety of church and mall goers.*SGG
