BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Barangay Captain Noli Villarosa of Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, won the Liga nga mga Barangay presidency unopposed during the elections held yesterday at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center.

Barangay Captain Tanya Familiaran of Brgy. 13 and Hernani Jalando-on of Brgy. 37, who won as Liga vice president and auditor, respectively, were also unopposed.

Villarosa is a coalition candidate of the MKK Party and Abang Lingkod Partylist.

Both Villarosa and Familiaran garnered 53 votes while Jalando-on of Brgy. 37 got 55 votes.

Barangay Captain Alfredo Talimodao, Jr. of Brgy. Granada garnered 57 votes, the highest among the elected officials, which landed him on the top spot in the Board of Directors.

Elected directors were Myrna Obligar of Brgy. 27, Jeffrey Cuachon of Brgy. 36, Jonathan Diaz of Brgy. 18 and Friday Solinap of Brgy. Villamonte, who got 55 votes each; Charlie Chavez Brgy. of Brgy. 22 who got 54 votes, Richard Barber of Brgy. 2 who got 53 votes, and Freddie Vargas of Brgy. 4 who got 51 votes.

They taken their oath had earlier before Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella after the Oct. 28 Barangay Elections.

Sixty barangay captains attended the election yesterday except for Barangay Captain Arturo Parreño of Brgy. Mandalagan who was declared absent when outgoing Liga president Mona Dia Jardin signaled the distribution of ballots at around 9:40 a.m.

One ballot was deemed invalid by the Canvassing Committee after a voter added the prefix, “ Kap ” (colloquial for Captain) before the names of the candidates he voted for.

Nomination committee head Bernabe Sibug said they received 12 certificates of candidacy, that included the nine applicants running for Board of Directors.

Barangay Captain Alexander Diamante of Brgy. Taculing, who is allied with the camp of Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia, lost his bid for director of the Liga nga mga Barangay.

The winners were proclaimed by Election Committee chairman Jocelyn Uychiat of Brgy. 19 yesterday.

The elected directors will choose from among themselves the Liga secretary and treasurer.

Puentevella congratulated Villarosa for being elected Liga president and said the election was so far the most peaceful with the candidates having no opponents.

Puentevella said he hopes there will be no more opposition in the coming year. All they have to do is consult him if they see something wrong.

“The lesser the controversy, the better so we can move Bacolod forward,” he said.

Villarosa said he thank Puentevella for the support of his barangay captains and vowed to perform his obligations to the Liga members and to their constituents.* CGS
