The 130,000 sacks of Vietnam rice intended for Negros Occidental will be delivered next week, National Food Authority Provincial Manager Procopio Trabajo said yesterday.
Trabajo said 99 more sacks will also be delivered to the province later. He said the rice is part of the 500,000 sacks to be given by the NFA main office to Negros Occidental for the next three months to replenish what had been distributed to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Panay.
Trabajo also said the rest of the rice will be delivered in February next year.
NFA in Bacolod had 100,000 sacks of rice, and after the delivery of 15,000 to Panay, only 85,000 bags were left for Negros Occidental. Rice had to be shipped to Panay because Capiz, Aklan and Antique cannot mill yet, as these areas lack electricity due to the destruction of power lines by the typhoon.
The agency continues to still invite local farmers to sell their produce to the procurement teams of the agency stationed in the towns of Ilog, Candoni, Cuayan and Hinobaan and the cities of Sipalay and San Carlos.*APN
