Rebel unit claims
victories in Negros
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Apolinario Boy Gatmaitan Command of the New People's Army yesterday claimed victories in several tactical offensives they have launched against government forces, and also declared having defeated military campaigns in Negros Island since 2007.

Rebel spokesman Juanito Magbanua II, in a statement he issued, said that despite the obstacles and difficulties faced by the NPA in Negros, they were able to defeat the Oplan Bayanihan, triad operation and the whole nation approach strategy of the Armed Forces, that mobilizes local government units and agencies, non-government organizations, and the church, through its Church-Military-Police Advisory Group.

NORECO 2 warns
of pilferage
BY RENE GENOVE

The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II yesterday warned its member-customer-owners against unscrupulous persons going around and approaching big load consumers with the promise of decreasing the electricity consumption and reducing the electricity bill through pilferage methods.

Noreco 2 general manager Eunora Sameon said the cooperative is cautioning the MCOs not to entertain these people and not to engage in illegal activities since pilferage of electricity is a criminal act punishable under Republic Act 7832, or the Anti-electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act of 1994.

Sameon said any person caught pilfering, or illegally tapping electricity, is subject to six to 12 years imprisonment, or a fine ranging from P10,000 to P20,000, or both, and payment of the unregistered consumption and fines imposed by Noreco 2..

3 linked to Mexico
drug cartel nabbed

MANILA – Philippine anti-drug police said yesterday they had arrested three people connected to Mexico's feared Sinaloa drug cartel while they were storing narcotics.

The two Filipinos and one Filipino-Chinese were arrested in a raid on Wednesday on a cock-fighting farm in Lipa City, 75 kilometers (47 miles) south of Manila, after weeks of intelligence operations by local and US anti-narcotics personnel.

Seized in the raid were 84 kilograms (185 pounds) of methamphetamine hydrochloride, popularly known as "ice" or "shabu", as well as two firearms, said police officials.
