| ‘Trisikad driver kills self' A trisikad driver allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a nylon rope at his house in Purok Bolinao, Brgy. 1, Bacolod City, at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The fatality was identified yesterday as Joy Alabado, 43, by Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel, Station 2 chief.
Investigation showed that Alabado, who had come from a drinking spree, went to his room, and minutes later, his daughter, whose name was not disclosed, entered the room and saw her father hanging with a nylon rope tied around his neck, and attached to a truss in their house.
Sedel said the family claimed that Alabado was drunk and seemed problematic when he arrived home that night.
Alabado was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Al Frederick, the attending physician, Sedel said.
The police ruled out the angle of foul play as there were no evidence of struggle seen in the room and no visible traces of strangulation found on him.
No suicide notes were recovered from the room, the police said.
Sedel said residents claimed that Alabado had allegedly been using illegal drugs.
An autopsy will be conducted on the body, that is now at the Morgue section of the CLMMRH, Sedel said.*SGG

Man arrested
for firing gun
A 19-year-old man was detained on Christmas day for allegedly firing a gun at about 12:25 p.m. at the North Capitol Road in Brgy. 6, Bacolod City.
Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel, identified the suspect yesterday as Junrold Gumban, of Brgy. 9 in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
Reports said Police Officer 1 Mark Anthony Pabuaya, who was at the area, heard a gunshot and later saw Gumban holding an improvised firearm.
When he saw the police, Gumban tried but failed to pass the gun to his unidentified companion but was nabbed after a brief chase. Recovered from him were an improvised firearm or “sulpak”, loaded with a fired cartridge of a 12-gauge shotgun and three live ammunition of a 12-gauge shotgun, Sedel said.
He said Gumban and his companion did not have any opponents and had fired the gun only because of “tripping”.
A paraffin test was conducted on Gumban, and the gun was turned over to the Provincial Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination, Sedel said.
Gumban, who denied ownership of the gun, said his friend, whose name he did not disclose, gave it to him after he attended mass at church.
Sedel said they are readying charges for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition against Gumban.*SGG

Meanwhile, Mayor Monico Puentevella has not decided yet whether to retain Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel as director of the Bacolod City Police Office.
The mayor said he will still decide on the status of Ordaniel, who is among those being eyed to stay permanently as police director.
Ordaniel said he can wait for the mayor's decision, but the Police Regional Office-6 may also take action since his designation has taken too long.
An officer may remain as acting city director for only three months, then the mayor should decide whether to keep him as fulltime acting director, or replace him, Ordaniel said.
He said the PRO-6 might send the mayor a list of candidates for city director, that will include him.
Ordaniel, who has been acting director for six months, said he will have served for one year in the BCPO on January 12.*MDM/SGG
