A resolution requesting acting Office of the Building Official head Isidro Sun Jr., through the Office of the Mayor, to look into the alleged construction of a skywalk or footbridge at 15 th Street, Bacolod City, and, if possible, issue a notice of violation and stoppage of the construction, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Monday.
Bacolod Councilor El Cid Familiaran, author of the resolution, said this is in line with the issue of the city having double standard in dealing with businesses citing the case of Metro Safari Resort, which is being required to secure a business permit, while, on the other hand, a business establishment along Lacson Street has not been issued a notice of violation for its ongoing construction.
Councilor Caesar Distrito said they will discuss the issue concerning L'Fisher Hotel after they have passed the ordinance regulating the airspace in Bacolod City, which he had authored.
The ordinance declaring certain portions of 15th-Lacson streets (between Lacson and Aguinaldo streets), Bacolod City into patrimonial property to regulate its airspace, was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on second reading.
It was based on the request of the management of L'Fisher Hotel seeking SP approval on the use of the air space to authorize the construction of a new pedestrian/foot bridge that will link the existing hotel building to its new building that will house the Casino gaming, and other purposes.
Distrito said it is timely that they have created a general policy because of the construction boom in the city.
With the passage of the ordinance, the city will be able to raise real property taxes, and all requests for the use of airspace should pass the SP and this will generate income for the city from the application fee of business establishments, he said.*CGS
