Negros Occidental Acting Governor Salvador Escalante is calling on Negrenses to pay their real property taxes before the end of year to avail of discounts.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., who is on vacation in Tokyo, Japan, has designated Escalante acting governor starting yesterday until December 31.
Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who is in New Zealand, had gone on leave effective December 21 to January 4.
Escalante said the Office of the Provincial Treasurer will be open December 28, 30 and 31 to accept payment of taxes and fees.
Advance payment of real property taxes for 2014 will be given a 20 percent discount, Provincial Treasurer Nilda Genoroso said.
The real property tax collection of the provincial government for 2013 is P247 million and, as of yesterday, they had collected about 70 percent, she said.
Generoso added that she believes they will reach their target before the end of the year.
