neophyte cops

The deployment of 102 neophyte police officers for six months of field training exercises in Negros Occidental is expected to boost the maintenance of peace and order, during the election period.

Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, caretaker of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, yesterday said the policemen will be distributed to all the city police stations of the province.

They form part of the 484 neophyte cops distributed by the Police Regional Office 6 to six provinces of Western Visayas, for the training exercises on police functions such as patrol, crime management and investigations.

After the Field Training Program, they are expected to undergo a 45-day PNP SCOUT training at Camp Aniceto Lacson in Victorias City, Negros Occidental before their absorption into the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion.*GPB

‘Peddler’ nabbed
in drug buy-bust

A suspected drug peddler was arrested in a buy-bust operation at about 2 p.m. yesterday in Purok Bangros, Brgy. 1, Bacolod, by members of the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group.

CAIDSOTG head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, said they arrested Gino Inventor, “alias Mucho”, 20, of Purok Bangros when he handed a small sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur-buyer in exchange for P300.

Five more elongated sachets of suspected shabu, all valued at P6,000, that were hidden under Inventor’s cap were also seized after his arrest, Rapiz said.

Inventor is not in the watch list as he is new player, but a concerned citizen informed CAIDSOTG that he was into the sale of illegal drugs, he said.

Rapiz added that Inventor refused to identify his source but a police officer, who is also a member of CAIDSOTG, said Inventor’s supplier lives in the northern part of Bacolod.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the sale and possession of illegal drugs, will be filed against Inventor, who is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Bacolod City police headquarters.*APN

Teenager arrested
for qualified theft

A teenager was arrested yesterday at her boarding house in Brgy. 40, Bacolod City, at about 9 a.m. for allegedly taking and using the credit card of her friend.

Station 6 commander, Chief Insp. Noel Polines, said the suspect, 18, whose name he withheld, is now detained at their lock-up cell and will be charged for qualified theft.

Complainant Leslie Camille Guarte, 20, of Mapa Street, Brgy. 40, Bacolod, said she discovered her credit card gone at about 3 p.m. Sunday after the suspect went to her place to help her put on her make-up.

Guarte said she went to the bank to have her credit card closed but was told by the management that someone had purchased around P126,000 worth of items charged to the card.

She sought police help and confronted the suspect, who admitted the crime, Polines said.

The police seized the items the suspect bought using Guarte's credit card during her arrest, he added.*APN
