Jealousy allegedly drove a farm worker to stab his lover and her son in Purok Katipunan, Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod City, at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Station 9 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, said yesterday said that the suspect Ernesto Lacumba, 44, of Hervias Dos in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod stabbed Emily de la Cruz, 42, of Purok Katipunan on the chest after a heated argument at her house.

When Emily’s son Ginard de la Cruz, 21, saw what happened to his mother, he came to her aid, but Lacumba also stabbed him on the abdomen and fled, Gentoleo also said.

The de la Cruzes were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where Ginard underwent an operation, while his mother has been released as she sustained only a minor injury.

Stations 4 and 9 policemen, together with personnel from the Women and Children’s complaints desk, launched a follow-up operation and arrested Lacumba at his house in Purok Hervias at about 6 p.m. Sunday.

Lacumba is now detained at the Police Station 9 lock-up cell and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9262, or the Violence against Women and their Children Act, and frustrated homicide.

Meanwhile, a jobless man was also stabbed by his drinking buddy in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, after he allegedly said something bad against his friend’s sister.

Gentoleo said that the victim Michael Gomez, 27, of Purok GK and the suspect Joselito Abadajos were having drinks at the latter’s house when the incident happened.

Gomez, who sustained stab wounds on his abdomen and left shoulder, was brought to CLMMRH, where he is now confined, while Abadajos evaded arrest.*APN
