pact for peaceful polls
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO & ADRIAN NEMES III

Candidates vying for various local positions in Bacolod City yesterday vowed to ensure an orderly, honest and fair mid-term election in May this year as they signed a peace covenant at the city’s public plaza.

During the signing, the candidates pledged to uphold the constitution, obey all laws including the pertinent COMELEC resolutions governing the conduct of secure and fair elections

They also assured that they will reject the use of threats, violence, force, intimidation, partisan armed groups and other illegal means to advance their self interests. moremoremore

The Diocese of Bacolod issued the public statement on the eve of the Feast of the Chair of Peter and the arrival of the Team PNoy senatorial candidates in Bacolod City today.

A giant tarp calling for a conscience vote, and identifying pro and anti-life politicians, now hangs in front of the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City.

P3B more expected
for health needs

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental will get about P3 billion more annually in health services for the poor with the implementation of the sin tax law, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday.

With the expected P3 billion, Benitez said government can really come up with a social program for health to cover everyone and to improve hospitals.

In preparation for this, he has asked the Department of Social Welfare and Development National Household Targeting Unit to conduct a re-evaluation of the number of poor families in the third district of Negros Occidental, he said.moremoremore
