The Superintendent’s Accomplishment and Success-story-Telling Report on Education, or SASTRE, of the Dumaguete City Department of Education Division has been nominated for the 2012-2013 Gawad Career Executive Service Awards for its innovations that brought about significant changes in quality of education in the division.

SASTRE is City DepEd Division superintendent Ramir Uytico’s way of accounting for what he has done for the division in the last two years.

Under SASTRE is Maximizing Totality of Skills, or Project MTS, that focuses on academics, culture and arts. As a result, the first film festival was held showcasing the talents and skills of teachers and students.

Arnaiz visits orphanage,
mental health institution

Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District) celebrated his 58th birthday yesterday by holding a medical mission in Tanjay City, and visiting a mental health facility, an orphanage and a temporary shelter for abused children and women in Dumaguete City.

He was joined by his family and colleagues, like Tanjay City Mayor Lawrence Teves, Sangguniang Panlungsod members, Vice Governor Apolinario Arnaiz Jr. and former Finance Secretary Gary Teves, at the medical mission in Barangay Pal-iw, Tanjay City.

Services offered included free medical consultation and medicines, tooth extraction, and massage and haircut by Army personnel.

‘Pusher’ arrested
in Guihulngan

The alleged second most notorious illegal drugs dealer in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental was arrested in a buy-bust operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the city Tuesday.

Police said Dirke Raymund Ricarte was arrested when he handed a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu to a poseur buyer in exchange for P500. Police also seized three sachets of the banned substance from the suspect after his arrest.

Ricarte is now detained at the PDEA headquarters and charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being readied for filing against him.*JFP
