Representatives from the different sectors in the town of Cauayan converged recently to join in the Fun Run organized to help promote awareness on the campaign against child labor.
About 700 participants from the local government of Cauayan, the Department of Education, the military, and non-government organizations, participated in the 4-kilometer that started and ended at the town public plaza, a press release from the Civil Military Operations Office of the 47th Infantry Battalion based in Cauayan said.
Among those who joined the run were town councilor Romulo Mombay, members of the Cauayan-Child Labor Education Task Force, faculty and staff of the DepEd-Cauayan District 1 and 2, Cauayan-Katapatan Youth Club, the 47th Infantry Battalion, students and faculty from Central Philippine State University-Cauayan campus, and the Cauayan Police Station.
The activity started at 5 a.m., with a series of stretching exercises led by personnel of the 47th IB.
The advocacy demonstrates convergence of efforts between the LGUs, NGOs and other local government agencies to bring awareness, abolish conflicts, and promote peace in the community, the press release said.
During the program after the run, Melanie Jane Morales of the ERDA foundation and Lt. Col. Enriqueto Deocadez Jr., commanding officer of the 47th IB, committed their support to the campaign for children’s rights protection and to the advocacy against child labor.*
