Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday extended P78,000 worth of financial assistance to 18 families who were fire victims in Barangay 9, Kabankalan City, a Capitol press release said.

The February 16 fire razed several houses in the area. Twelve families, whose houses were destroyed were given P5,000 each, while six with damaged houses got P3,000 each, the press release said.

The financial assistance was given by Marañon who said he was deeply saddened by the incident.

The distribution of cash assistance was facilitated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Liane Garcia.*
