Retrenched workers of the First Farmers Holding Corp. in Brgy. Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, called on the provincial government to help them fight for their rights as workers at a press conference yesterday at the Negros Press Club building in Bacolod City.
Virgilio Salazar Jr., spokesperson for the First Arastre Stevedoring Services Employees Union, said they are disappointed that it has been two months since they started their picket outside the company premises but no government officials offered them help.
In October last year, 92 personnel of the sugar and molasses division were retrenched from their jobs without valid reason, Salazar claimed.

IN 2012
1,153 agri tourists
visited Negros Occ.
The Farmers’ Information Technology Services Center of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in Negros Occidental has recorded 39 agri-tours that brought in 1,153 visitors last year, Edna Garde, FITS manager, said yesterday.
Garde said the record only shows OPA-FITS tour bookings and does not include the number of guests who directly visited farms in the province.
“It is anticipated that more tourists had visited Negros organic farms since tourists already knew where and what farms to go,” she said.
