A resolution requesting the Bacolod Traffic Authority, Traffic Management Unit and the City Engineer’s Office, through the Office of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, to put up signs indicating the schedule of the truck ban is being proposed by Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito.

The signs should be placed along the circumferential road, and within the perimeter of the downtown area, for the information and awareness of the public, he said yesterday.

The signs should indicate the schedules of the truck ban, as provided for in City Ordinance 542, series of 2011, which is between 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., from Mondays to Fridays, the proposed resolution said.

CO 542 also provides that all cargo/delivery trucks more than 4.8 tons and 16 feet high will be prohibited from entering the perimeter of the downtown area. The ordinance has already been in effect for more than a year, but no signs were placed in significant places along the circumferential road, or at the perimeter of the downtown area, Distrito said.

Motorists and passengers are already getting confused about the schedule of the truck ban because there are several heavy-loaded trucks that pass the circumferential road and the downtown area even if these are already banned from entering, he added.

It was also observed that cargo trucks with length that exceeds the requirement continue to pass even beyond the allowable period, he said.*CGS
