Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday called on Negrenses to observe cleanliness and take necessary precautions to prevent the further rise of dengue cases in Negros Occidental.
There was a seven percent increase in dengue cases in Negros Occidental in 2012 over 2011, Provincial Health Office records showed last week.
In 2012, there were 1,179 dengue cases reported, and 1,104 in 2011.
Deaths from dengue in 2012 were five, and 14 in 2011.
Dengue is transmitted by the bite of Aedes mosquitoes.
The Department of Health “4S Kontra Dengue” stresses the need to search and destroy mosquito breeding places, seek early consultation, take self-protective measures, and to say no to indiscriminate fogging.
To prevent dengue, the DOH advises the public to destroy all possible mosquito breeding sites, like old tires and tin cans, to clean roof gutters, replace water in flower vases regularly, and to use mosquito nets, or protective clothing.*CPG back
