An ordinance establishing a system for the granting of the termination benefits to the barangay workers in Bacolod City, was approved on first reading Wednesday by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Authored by Bacolod City Councilor El Cid Familiaran, the ordinance to be known as the “Barangay Workers Benefits Ordinance,” provides that barangay workers such as the barangay staff, clerks, utilities, barangay tanods, barangay health workers and nutrition scholars, receive benefits after termination from duty.
The ordinance said that loyal and dedicated barangay workers deserve recognition thus, termination benefits will be rewards or incentives for their dedication and loyalty.
To ensure that these benefits are given to the deserving barangay workers, criteria for giving them are the tenure, or length of service, and probity or honesty while on duty.
A worker must also not have a pending administrative or criminal complaint relating to his or her work. Pendency or conviction in any cases will suspend the entitlement to the benefits, it said.
To ensure the benefits of the terminated barangay workers, the ordinance mandates that one percent of the annual budget of the barangay is set aside annually, for the Barangay Workers Benefits Fund.* back
