PNP revamps regionwide;
Guara OIC for Negros Occ.

Ten senior police officers occupying key positions in Western Visayas, including the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and Bacolod City Police Office, were affected by the regionwide PNP revamp effective Saturday.

The changes in major police commands took place, as the election period started yesterday.

Senior Supt. Celestino Guara is now the new NOPPO officer-in-charge, replacing Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan who has been designated as the Human Resource and Doctrine Development chief of the Police Regional Office 6.moremoremore

The police should just do their job and remain neutral, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said.

This was the reaction of the governor to the reshuffling of key police officials in Western Visayas, including Negros Occidental, at the start of the election period that ends on June 12, with the election day on May 13.

He said the reshuffling of police officials the day before the election period was the prerogative of the police.

Fire destroys 47 houses

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday delivered assistance to 66 families who were victims of a fire that destroyed 47 houses in Purok Edrina, Brgy. 5 in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, at noon Saturday.

The governor said P5,000 each in shelter assistance and relief goods were given to those who lost their homes.

The fire reportedly originated from the house of a certain Magnolia Flores, Supt. Fred Trajeras, Bureau of Fire and Protection provincial chief, said yesterday.
