A training program on community disaster preparedness was conducted by the Corporate Network for Disaster Response and Smart Communications Inc., in Barangay Candau-ay, Dumaguete City recently, a press release from the company said.
Candau-ay was one of the barangays hardest hit by typhoon Sendong in 2011, and is the latest host community for the Noah’s Ark Project of CNDR.
Around 35 barangay and purok officials and health workers participated in the workshop at the Dumaguete septage treatment facility in Barangay Camanjac, from January 8-10, the press release said.
Representatives from the CNDR and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration conducted the first in a series of workshops and trainings on disaster preparedness, particularly for floods. The project will end in six months with a flood drill based on the contingency plan formed by the barangay.
Similar trainings and evacuation drills had been conducted in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City; Tumana, Marikina City; and Brgy. Macasandig in Cagayan de Oro City last year, the press release also said.
It is also being implemented in the high-risk communities of Bayanan, Muntinlupa City; Guitinang Bayan 1, San Mateo Rizal; Brgy. Tubod, Iligan City; and expanded in Nangka, Marikina City, the press release added.*
