The Law Department of the Commission on Elections has granted the withdrawal of 14 more candidates in Negros Occidental from the May polls, and the substitution of six, Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

Approved was the withdrawal of Mark Palanca as mayoral candidate of Victorias City, and of Nilo Japitan and Reylan Gamboa Sr. as independent bets for EB Magalona Sangguniang Bayan seats.

Also approved were the withdrawals of five Nationalist People's Coalition candidates for councilor in Cadiz City, identified as Augusto Tolosa, Rogelio Balandra, Nazario Ibañez Sr., Lanie Galleron and Glenda Diola.

Will it be Iloilo Provincial Elections Supervisor Elizabeth Doronila who will be assigned to head the Commission on Elections in Negros Occidental?

A regionwide reshuffling of COMELEC personnel is expected before the May polls, Negros Occidental Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez said yesterday.

However, as of yesterday, the COMELEC had not made an official announcement.moremoremore

Baciwa gets threats

Security measures at the Bacolod City Water District Office have been intensified following threats received by the firm from unidentified suspects, its manager, Juliana Carbon, said yesterday.

Carbon said she received a letter from an unknown source Monday telling them that one of their pumping stations will be burned and that a bomb will be lobbed at the BACIWA office.

Aside from that, she said, the letter sender also advised her to tell her men in the field to be extra careful or they will be killed.moremoremore
