Construction worker killed
A construction worker was stabbed dead in Purok Busay, Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod City, at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Station 9 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, identified the fatality as Jun Agustin, 27, of Brgy. Bacong, Bago City, in Negros Occidental, who sustained multiple stab wounds.
He said Agustin was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The suspects were identified as John Rey Dalieda, 26; Rhoy Espina, 24, both of Brgy. Bacong, Bago City; Larry Lopez, 29; Joel Magbanua, 30, both of Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana town; and Carlos Asopre, 24, of Brgy. Tibuco, San Carlos City; all in Negros Occidental, police records show.
Investigation showed that the suspects and Agustin, who were staying in the same rented house, had a heated argument during a drinking spree.
Gentoleo said Dalieda stabbed Agustin with a bladed weapon and fled.
Investigation also showed that an old grudge existed between the suspects and Agustin, who were all construction workers.
The family of the victim has requested an autopsy on the body of Agustin, Gentoleo said.
Espina, Lopez, Magbanua, and Asopre, who are now at the lock-up cell of Station 9, and Dalieda, who is at large, may be charged for homicide before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office, Gentoleo added.*SGG back

3 nabbed in Bacolod
Three Negros Occidental congressmen said Saturday that they will study the proposal for a one-island region for Negros, and will support whatever is advantageous for Negrenses.
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. had earlier said that making Negros a one-island region composed of the Occidental and Oriental provinces will need an act of Congress.
Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva (Neg. Occ., 2nd District) said “If it’s for the good of Negrenses, why not, but I have to see first what the proposal for the one-island region is.”
Rep. Jeffery Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) said he will have to study the pros and cons of the proposal because creating a region will mean added infrastructure and personnel for new regional offices.
He will support whatever is advantageous for Negros, Ferrer said.
“That has long been proposed, let’s hope it takes off as it will be good,” Rep. Alejandro Mirasol (Neg, Occ., 5th District) said.*CPG back
