| The Silay induction
Silay City Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibano, Vice Mayor Mark Golez, together with their councilors, took their oath of office on June 22, before Regional Trial Court Judge Felipe Banzon at the historic Sen. Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center.
The simple yet meaningful affair was attended by their families, friends and supporters. The talented Kabataang Silay Ensemble Rondalla provided entertainment at the affair.
In his inaugural address, Montelibano thanked his supporters for believing in his vision for Silay, and invited all Silaynons to unite for the city’s progress. He announced that Silay City was identified by the United Nations–Habitat as one of the fastest growing cities in the Philippines. He said this recognition is a manifestation of the hard work and dedication of the people who serve Silay.
The recognitions, which include a Seal of Good House Keeping from the Department of Interior and Local Government in the field of health, education, good governance, among others, showed that Silay is right on track. Montelibano further credits the success to the people of Silay being proactive and participatory in local governance.
Be Proud to be a Silaynon! has always been his battle-cry and it seems Silay has been hearing his call – because of the many good things that has been going on in the city and, of course, in the new mandate of leadership they have entrusted to him.* |
