Three solons studying
one island-region

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Three Negros Occidental congressmen said Saturday that they will study the proposal for a one-island region for Negros, and will support whatever is advantageous for Negrenses.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. had earlier said that making Negros a one-island region composed of the Occidental and Oriental provinces will need an act of Congress.

Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva (Neg. Occ., 2nd District) said “If it’s for the good of Negrenses, why not, but I have to see first what the proposal for the one-island region is.”

Rep. Jeffery Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) said he will have to study the pros and cons of the proposal because creating a region will mean added infrastructure and personnel for new regional offices.

He will support whatever is advantageous for Negros, Ferrer said.

“That has long been proposed, let’s hope it takes off as it will be good,” Rep. Alejandro Mirasol (Neg, Occ., 5th District) said.*CPG
