77 neophyte cops
beef up maneuvers

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The seven maneuver platoons of the Negros Occidental Public Safety Company have been beefed up with 74 neophyte police officers, Chief Inspector Frankie Jingle Lugo, newly-designated provincial police spokesman, yesterday said.

The 74 new police officers form part of the 77 neophyte policemen and women recently downloaded from the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, police records show.

Lugo said three of the 77 police officers were detailed to Cauayan, Moises Padilla and Sipalay Police Stations, and the 74 others will be on temporary detail at NOPSC, now headed by Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez.

There are seven platoon-sized units of NOPSC stationed in the cities of Sagay and Bago, and in the towns of Hinigaran, Cauayan and Don Salvador Benedicto, as well as in Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.

NOPSC troopers are actively involved in anti-insurgency operations, civil disturbance management and rescue operations, and serving as augmentation forces to police stations in case of emergency situations.

Lugo said the deployment of 77 policemen and women is timely for the October barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections. “ We expect more men-in-uniform to be visible on the streets, to serve as a strong deterrent in suppressing criminal activities”, Lugo added.

Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, encouraged the newly-assigned police officers at NOPPO to be vigilant, while on duty, and observe the basics.*GPB
