The P400.9 million 10.12-kilometer Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road is now passable and is expected to be fully completed next month.

Frank Carbon, team leader of the project monitoring committee of the National Economic and Development Authority-Region 6, said yesterday that the project being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund will be inaugurated in October by President Benigno Aquino III.

He said some street and traffic lights have already been installed along the access road after a meeting between the monitoring team and Project Manager Zenaida Mauhay and the visitation at the project site last month.

The team also recommended the installation of slope protection measures, roadside drainage system and creation of road right-of-way free from obstruction of permanent and semi-permanent structures such as lamp posts, commercial establishments and trees among others.

The project route begins at the Bacolod Circumferential Road heading north, passing sugar cane plantation areas in Talisay City and then north to Brgy. Bagtik in Silay City.

The construction of the access road is expected to ease the traffic congestion at the northern part of Bacolod.*APN
