ANP to celebrate 25th year

The Association of Negros Producers will open its 25th anniversary celebration with a physical fitness activity at the Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod City from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, a press release from the ANP said.

Dr. Albert Jo will then talk on “Living Life to the Fullest” at the ANP conference room.

The 80 member-producers of ANP, its staff and employees, in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Office, will join the activity at the lagoon.

The activity is aimed at rekindling camaraderie among ANP member-producers as well as awareness of healthy living practices, the press release said.

Non-ANP members who are interested to listen to Jo’s talk can call 434-1000 for reservations, the press release added.*

MAYOR SAYS
‘San Carlos completes
projects with no debt’

San Carlos Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr. said the city has completed all its big projects at its own expense, without incurring debts from any financial institution, and has spent within its means, a press release from the city said.

In his recent inaugural address, Valmayor underscored the development and progress of the city in education, infrastructure, solid waste management, water projects and management, and the construction of roads in far-flung areas. He also cited the awards and citations that the city government has received through the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, the press release also said.

Valmayor, Vice Mayor Edgar Quisumbing and councilors Debulgado, Criston Carmona, Vicky Cabili, Hernan Antonio, Dixon Yu, Eddie Apuhin, Mascuñana, Noli Baguiro, Clint Mansueto and Uy were sworn in by Regional Trial Court Branch 59 Executive Judge Kathrine Go at the city auditorium on June 30.

Present at the ceremony were Rep. Jules Ledesma IV (Neg. Occ., 1st District), Vice Gov. Eugenio Lacson, re-elected first district Board Member Rene Gustilo, the families of the city officials, barangay leaders and supporters, the press release added.*

ARBs attend
GAD orientation

Agrarian reform beneficiaries of haciendas Carmenchika and Vizcaya in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, attended the orientation on gender and development held by the Department of Agrarian Reform at the Farmers’ Center in Pontevedra recently, a press release from the DAR said yesterday.

Provincial Agrarian Reform officer 1 Gideon Yongque Jr. led the orientation on DAR Administrative Order No. 1, series of 2011, on the guidelines governing gender equality in the implementation of agrarian reform laws and mainstreaming gender development in the DAR. The directive was to ensure that women and men have equal access to the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program and other agrarian laws, the press release also said.

The lack of preparedness of ARBs to mitigate climate change, provisions in Republic Act 9700, or the CARPER Law, on the recognition and enforcement of the rights of rural women to own and control land, and to be represented in the advisory or decision-making bodies, independent of their male relatives and of their civil status, were also discussed, the press release also said.

The orientation was part of the activities of the DAR to commemorate the 25th anniversary of CARP, the press release added.*
